Athletes tend to buy training books by themselves; if you're giving a gift a sure-fire bet for something they might not buy for themselves is to give a novel. Here are some choices:

• The Other Kingdom: A newly republished novel by Victor Price about an Irish miler.
• The Long Road to Boston: For those who relate more to the marathon than the mile, Bruce Tuckman's fanciful but quite enjoyable tale about the Boston Marathon.
• The Yellow Jersey: Ralph Hurne's classic novel about a washed-up cyclist who finds his last Tour de France turning into the chance of a lifetime.
• Two Wheels: A Cycling Murder Mystery: Greg Moody's brand-new murder mystery.
• Hills, Hawgs, & Ho Chi Minh: This isn't a novel, but Don Kardong has had so many interesting experiences, and writes so well, it's as much "pleasure reading" as any novel. This is our favorite book in the store.

There are undoubtedly some people you'd like to give a low-cost gift. We carry an inexpensive humor books which any of your athletic friends will enjoy:

• Stay Fit & Healthy Until You're Dead. A lot of people (I'm one of them) think Dave Barry is the funniest man in America. This $8.95 book skewers aerobics, running, bodybuilding, nutrition, dieting, and lots of other fitness topics.

Shipping Notes

Books are normally shipped by book rate. For a small additional fee, they can also be shipped by Priority Mail to U.S. customers only. Priority Mail is typically 2-3 days according to the Post Office (although not guaranteed). As the holidays get closer, we recommend Priority Mail if you are worried about receiving your order in time.

Books outside of the United States can be shipped by surface mail or by airmail, depending on how much you want to pay.

Virtually all books in our catalog are in stock and will be shipped within 24 hours of your order; the few books which are not in stock are marked with an asterisk (*) on the order form. Any book not in stock is already on order, so it should be back in stock within a few days.
