Book Profile
How to Train

by Hal Higdon

Description

Training schedules. You want 'em. Higdon's got 'em. If you're one of those runners who wants to be told what to do on a day by day basis, this is the book for you, whether you're training for a 5K or a 100K.

Hal Higdon has been running since the 50's (read his wonderful On the Run From Dogs and People for some great stories of "the old days") but he doesn't just rely on his own extensive experience. Instead, as he did in Marathon - The Ultimate Training and Racing Guide, Higdon collects advice from dozens of top coaches, each one providing a training schedule in an area in which they specialize. The book covers not only standard distances, like the 5K, 10K, and marathon, but other distances (ultra, track, cross-country) and special situations (hot weather, rehabilitation, etc.) as well, as you can see from the Table of Contents below.

About the Author

A senior writer for Runner's World magazine, he is the author of 30 books, including Run Fast and Marathon - The Ultimate Training and Racing Guide. He has been a runner for more than 40 years and has completed more than 100 marathons.
